Viva e Abbasso (pop-up) – ResEBE
Single-opening pop-up (to be assembled), in a limited, signed, and numbered edition.
Hand screenprinted in black by ResEBE and La Luce Rossa in 2021.
Includes a handmade fabric bag and a signed and numbered screenprint (29.7 × 42 cm).
In continuity with the sign-space research initiated with ZigoZago—the site-specific installation created for Tekè Gallery in February 2020—ResEBE, together with Juan Carlos Allende from the screenprinting workshop La Luce Rossa, decided to deepen the experience with the creation of a fully screenprinted pop-up titled VIVA e ABBASSO, published by Tabularasa Edizioni.
VIVA e ABBASSO is full of rocks and water, mountains and presences, faces and hands—entirely handmade in a limited artist edition. From the drawings that compose it to the screenprinting frames that allow its one-color reproduction.
The pop-up must be assembled and learned, just as the artist did: studying how to design it to be accessible to everyone—from experts to beginners, regardless of age or background.
VIVA e ABBASSO tells the story of the ZIGO ZAGO sign—one going up, one going down—like a sign-frequency. It reflects on how the sign becomes pattern and vibrating surface, in the shapes of rocks and mountains. Where Zigo moves one way, and Zago another. Two opposites that do not “resonate” alone—but together, they do, sustained by the graphic choice of black and white.
A work that also broadens into a reflection on the landscape surrounding the city of Carrara, on all that ascends—thinking of the Mountains as a symbol—and on all that descends from them; on how humans live with Nature, how Nature can suffer from it, but also how it manages to reorganize itself despite us.
