BIOGRAPHY
Federica Cela
Federica, known in the underground punk self-publishing festival scene by the name “Estrema Unzione,” is an artist who uses her work as a tool for critique, denunciation, and provocation, aimed at stimulating reflection on contemporary society.
With subtle yet incisive irony, she depicts a world where the individual becomes a soulless body, reduced to a mere cog in a massive social machine that demands only consumption and survival in order to keep itself from collapsing.
Her artistic research focuses particularly on the complex relationship between human beings and technology, exploring apocalyptic and dystopian scenarios that appear to foreshadow a frightening future — one that feels alarmingly close to today’s reality. Her works hit the viewer with conceptual and visual force, almost like a punch in the eye, making it impossible to ignore their message.
One of the most distinctive traits of her style is the use of bold, stark contrasts — both aesthetically and narratively. The irony with which she tackles complex and often uncomfortable topics becomes a means of shaking the viewer awake, attempting to jolt them from the numbness and alienation of an automated life. Her goal is to provoke reflection, to destabilize, and to reignite critical awareness — pushing us to look beyond the surface of things and question the world we inhabit.
