BIOGRAPHY
Alexander "Sasha" Povzner
Born in Moscow in 1976, he is a sculptor, painter, and graphic artist. He creates intuitive images by transforming the everyday into paradoxical objects, using laconic compositions and a monochromatic palette.
Povzner works with grotesque archetypes and images drawn from history and pop culture; his works range across sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking, large-scale installations, and land art. Self-reflection and self-knowledge—whether through in-depth analysis of the artist’s childhood impressions and fantasies, the exploration of academic training experiences, or the practices and routines of daily life—are all central themes in Alexander Povzner’s work. His artistic practice becomes a means to understand his inner world, his life, and his freedom. Through seemingly simple means, the artist draws viewers into his imaginative “vortex,” pushing them toward new or long-forgotten thoughts and feelings, and transmitting to them the energy that he himself experiences. Povzner has participated in the Manifesta Biennale (2014) and the Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art (2017). His works are exhibited in Russia and abroad.
