Lobu experiments in the graphic field with compositions of geometric volumes, created through an instinctive process in which various shapes are placed side by side and overlapped like blocks of marble. These structures often reference architectural constructions, within which moving spheres find their place, evoking the frenzy of human existence within society.
Due to their geometric, angular and three-dimensional structure, over the past year the artist has increasingly associated these compositions with the shape and context of the Carrara quarries, where the massive extraction of marble has profoundly denatured the form of the mountains.
The geometric compositions created by the artist, when placed within the quarry context, acquire symbolic value; where gigantic portions of mountain are extracted every day, ideal structures are positioned in harmony with the geometry of the quarry (for once giving material back to the mountains), as if to ideologically fill the void caused by the extraction of marble.
But what is removed never returns to its place; hence the title of the exhibition, Under Deconstruction – Point of no return: the artificial process of deconstructing the mountains is translated graphically into compositions of blocks that are associated with the extracted portions of marble, adapted and reimagined by the artist according to the geometry of the quarry.
The real process of deconstruction is difficult to grasp and hard to narrate, but it can be understood if one opens their eyes where some have lost their sense of reality, turning speed into voracity.
