Dr. Doop3, the pseudonym of Tang Xing Lin, is an artist who, through introspective works, seeks to denounce the greed of modern man.
Born in Zunyi, China, in 1994, he initially trained as a graphic designer before turning his attention to the world of artistic illustration.
He arrived at Teké Gallery in 2020, initially collaborating on the production of screen-printed works. Over time, he became an integral part of the gallery's team and a full-time resident artist.
His works immediately struck Juan so deeply that, on December 3rd, 2021, a solo exhibition titled “The Confusion” was inaugurated within the spaces of Teké Gallery.
“Confusion” has accompanied humanity since the dawn of its social evolution. The creation of artificial systems has led to an exponential suppression of instinct and everything humanity struggles to face openly.
From this stems Dr. Doop3's need to visualize this repressed and pulsating force through the techniques acquired during his artistic training (Shui-mo, the art of chiaroscuro; Gongbi, the art of meticulous realism; and traditional printing techniques learned during his time in Italy), all filtered through the cultural stimuli that surrounded him as he grew up—from the explosion of anime (such as Evangelion) to the underground hip-hop scene, in which he actively participated in his hometown through posters, album covers, and streetwear design (BZUG crew).
The “monsters” he gives birth to are instinctive, hidden in the subconscious, bursting violently onto the scene.
Multiple eyes stare at the viewer—judging, unsettling. Phallic shapes evoke man's uncontrollable desire, greedy and gluttonous.
The violent gestures express an urgent need to release what has no outlet.
Dr. Doop3’s visual work can be interpreted as a journey through all the emotions a human being is capable of feeling in a single instant, yet never able to fully express beyond the confines of their own thoughts and sensations.
Chaos, buried deep within the subconscious, expressed through his art.
